Coming in many variety of designs, sizes and weaves, Kashan rugs can enhance the look of your formal living spaces from entrance to hallways and living rooms, dining rooms, bedrooms and you staircases. The original type Kashan with merino wool has not been made since 1930. They bring very high prices if not worn out.  A textile merchant in Kashan, finding himself overloaded with the merino wool from Manchester, England (the very finest wool ever put in any rug, and wool so lustrous that ti is often difficult to tell whether it is silk nap or really wool) and finding the textile (handwoven cloth) business at low eebb, had his wife weave a rug with this wool It brought a handsome price and quickly a few other looms were started. In a short time, the finest carpet sizes ever to come out of Persia were being woven in Kashan with this merino wool. These rugs were clipped with a short to medium-short nap. Up to 1930, they were the finest and costliest of all new Oriental Rugs.

Woven in the city of Kashan, which is about 150 miles due south of Tehran. Kashan is an unusual city in the sense that it is built below the ground surface, downward instead of upward. Their living quarters are arranged in galleries around a garden, usually 20 to 30 feet below the ground level.
